Ecommerce for the Little Guy or Gal

We get asked all the time about selling products online.  Not that long ago I would take a deep breath when asked because I knew the development process was intense and even when the ecommerce site was up and running, the client was in for a daunting adventure.  Make beautiful jewelry in the morning, take glorious pictures in the afternoon, and then click, click, click away on your computer to sell it to the world.  Not to mention filling the order. Packing, addressing, hauling off to the post office.  I know I even have trouble with that once a year at Christmas.

My Addiction to Online Shopping

Thankfully, exciting options exist today for the small shop creative to grab those online customers.  Digital cameras are certainly one savior (great tips here), but what about all those ecommerce sites offering their services for an affordable rate that are easy to upload and maintain and they have 24 hour support.  I have to admit I wile away many hours on etsy.com.  I warn everyone who gets my ‘OMG you haven’t seen Esty?” speech that they should prep with cup of coffee, comfortable chair, and no other distractions.  A handy list of upcoming present giving and receiving dates is also quite useful.

Here is a little sneak peek at what you will find.  Please don’t click until you finish this post or you may never come back.  Big shout out to herbanluxe for creating this  ‘TECH It Out!’ treasury.  I am so buying the “I will not fix your computer” button!

My Top Three Ecommerce Options

So without further adieu, here is my “#1 reason to choose it” for each of my three favorite options for selling your wares online.

etsy.com

You will benefit from the huge exposure created by the joy of browsing the site. According to the Etsy 2010 Weather Report, (that is what they call their monthly stats report) 940,579,465 page views were recorded on the site in December!  Wow!

bigcartel.com

You only want to sell products and you don’t have a website, this is your all in one option!  Big bang for you buck!  There are plenty of examples.

shopify.com

You have a retail and an online store and you want it all to sync up.

And there you have it, are you still here or are you shopping….
